How Does GeneSight® Work?
The process is simple and painless. A quick cheek swab, either taken in our office or sent to your home, collects the DNA sample required for the test, which is then sent to the GeneSight® laboratory. The sample is subject to comprehensive analysis to determine how your genes might interact with various psychiatric medications.
Within just a few days, we receive a comprehensive report classifying over 60 mental health medications based on your genetic information, showing which medications may be more likely to be effective, as well as if there are any others that would be unwise to try given your body’s ability to metabolize them effectively. This data is invaluable for making informed medication choices tailored just for you.
