Below you'll find an overview of the common conditions we provide care for, helping those we treat to live happier, healthier, more balanced lives.

Always remember – even if you meet the criteria for what may be clinically classified as a disorder, that only means that you've been suffering under the weight of something that's outside of your control. In spite of that, you've been strong enough to keep going. You being here right now to explore what options are available to improve your life is proof that you have the strength to become your best self.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. People with ADHD might have problems with attention, hyperactivity, as well as impulsivity.

It's important to understand the presentation of ADHD falls along a spectrum, and high performance in work or school doesn't negate the possibility that someone is suffering from an impairment to their brain's executive functioning capabilities. The symptoms can manifest in a variety of ways whether physically, mentally, and/or emotionally.

Stimulant and nonstimulant medications can be effective in treating ADHD by helping to increase the levels of neurotransmitters that affect attention, decision-making, and overwhelm.

Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders manifest as excessive and persistent worry about everyday situations. Beyond occasional stress or nervousness, anxiety is a constant state of heightened alertness that can interfere with daily activities. The brain, in its attempt to protect, goes into overdrive, perceiving threats even when there aren't any.

Medications for anxiety work to calm this heightened state, reducing symptoms and allowing individuals to navigate life with more ease and confidence.

Depression Disorders

Depression isn't just about feeling down or sad temporarily while going through a rough patch. It's a persistent feeling, akin to a heavy cloud that doesn't dissipate, making even mundane tasks seem insurmountable. This mental health condition requires a blend of compassionate understanding and dedicated medical care.

While many factors contribute to depression, an imbalance in the brain's chemicals often plays a significant role. Antidepressants work to restore this balance, helping to alleviate the symptoms and bring clarity.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD develops in some individuals after experiencing a traumatic event, causing them to relive that moment repeatedly. It's as if the brain gets stuck in a loop, replaying the trauma. For some people, it may only be triggered by encountering similar circumstances, but others may be suffering constantly without any moments of relief.

Medications for PTSD work to break this loop, helping to reduce symptoms like flashbacks and severe anxiety. By regulating mood and emotional responses, these medications can provide a path to healing and recovery.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD is characterized by repetitive, unwanted thoughts and the urge to perform certain actions to alleviate these thoughts. It's as if the brain gets caught in a specific pattern and can't break free.

Medications for OCD work to disrupt these patterns, reducing the intensity of obsessions and compulsions to provide relief.

Other Mood Disorders

Mental health is intricate, and not everyone's experience will fit neatly into a specific category. At Sun Psychiatry, we recognize the diversity of mood disorders and are committed to addressing each patient's unique needs. We collaborate with patients to find the right medication and dosage, considering all facets of their mental wellness.
